The DNR investigated a fish kill in Dubuque County this week.
The fish kill, which was caused by manure runoff, has been linked to Lawler Dairy in Peosta. Investigators say the owners of the dairy farm applied liquid manure to a nearby field. Due to snowmelt and rainfall, the manure ran into a nearby ravine and through a tile intake into an unnamed tributary located along Graff Road north of Peosta – that unnamed tributary runs into the Little Maquoketa River.
The manure runoff has reportedly killed over 230 fish.
The DNR says enforcement actions are pending against Lawler Dairy.
