Linn County authorities have released the name of the man who was found dead during a burglary call in Toddville late Sunday night.
He has been identified as 39-year old Jesse McBurney of Palo.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to 3689 Toddville Road around 11 pm for a report of a burglary in progress. The resident, 64-year old John Kainz, reported that someone had broken out several windows and was trying to enter his home. Kainz yelled and the person ran away.
Deputies arrived on the scene a short time later, with the K-9 leading deputies behind a detached garage on the corner of the property. That’s where they found McBurney laying on the ground on his back – unresponsive with no pulse and not breathing.
Deputies moved him to an open area and started CPR and also requested medical assistance. He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities say McBurney had injuries that were consistent with broken glass found at the scene, but his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. His body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of his death.
The case remains under investigation.
