An assisted living center in Independence was evacuated due to smoke in the building on Sunday night.
The Independence Fire Department says they were called Prairie Hills shortly before 7 pm. When they arrived on the scene, staff was evacuating residents and smoke was coming from the laundry room.
An investigation found that a faulty washing machine caused the smoke.
Fire crews were on the scene for about an hour, using positive pressure to ventilate the building of smoke.
No injuries were reported.
