Lamont Man Sentenced for Soliciting Girls on Facebook

A Lamont man has been sentenced to prison for soliciting girls on Facebook.

The Buchanan County Attorney’s Office says 38-year old Gregory Michael German was sentenced to ten years in prison last week. German had pleaded guilty to Sexual Exploitation of a Minor in February.

The charge against German arose when the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The tip via Facebook reported German was possibly enticing a 14-year old girl online for sexual acts. Another cyber tip reported German had solicited the teen for 15 pornographic images of herself.

In August of 2015, a search warrant was conducted at German’s home in Lamont, with authorities and agents seizing all of his electronic media devices. At that time, German acknowledged he had probably solicited 10 to 15 girls under the age of 16 for sexually explicit photos through Facebook. He said eight or nine of them had responded by sending him nude photos and one or two sent him nude videos. He also admitted to send a photo of his genitals to eight or nine girls under the age of 16.

German was arrested and charged in November of 2017.

The Buchanan County Attorney’s Office says once he completes his ten year prison sentence, he will remain under supervision as if on parole for the rest of his life and be placed on the sex offender registry.
