Three people were injured in an accident on Highway 20 in Dubuque County on Wednesday morning.
It happened between Farley and Epworth by Hartbecke Road around 8 am.
The Iowa State Patrol says a pickup truck pulling into the westbound lanes of Highway 20 from Hartbecke Road was rear-ended by a semi hauling anhydrous ammonia. The semi jack-knifed and came to rest in the median. The pickup rolled over into the north ditch.
Authorities closed the westbound lanes of Highway 20 between Farley and Epworth as Dubuque Hazmat and other emergency personnel arrived on the scene. They say the crash did not cause any anhydrous leaks.
The State Patrol says the semi driver, 57-year old Jerry Radke of Dubuque, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was injured and transported to Finley Hospital in Dubuque. The pickup driver, 53-year old Philip Brown of Farley, was treated and released. A passenger in the pickup, 19-year old Nicholas Knipper of Earlville, was also treated and released.
Charges are pending. The accident remains under investigation.
