The Manchester area’s newest event center will be hosting an open house this weekend.
Windmill Hill is a barn venue for weddings and other events, such as graduations, birthdays and family reunions. And it’s appropriately named – located on a hill north of town just off Highway 13, with an antique windmill on the site. Dick Tucker says he and his wife, Mary Kaye, decided to renovate the half-century old barn that sits on their property.
So, their family got right to work – transforming the old barn into an event center. Work on the barn started last April and was wrapped up by the fall – just in time for their daughter’s wedding.
Dick says they wanted to make sure Windmill Hill would accommodate most people’s needs, so they did quite a bit of research.
The barn has a few special touches, including chandeliers made from a large old windmill fan and old wagon wheels.
And Mary Kaye says they took advantage of every space – even turning the barn’s old milkhouse into a kitchen.
And after the barn was finished, they moved onto the corn crib – renovating it so the wedding parties had a place to get ready for their big day.
Mary Kaye says Windmill Hill started taking bookings last fall and dates been filling up quickly.
Sunday’s Open House at Windmill Hill runs from 1 to 4 pm, with vendors and treats available.
