Former VP Biden Stops in Monticello on Campaign Swing

Former Vice President Joe Biden stopped in Monticello this week on his campaign swing through the state.

It was Biden’s first trip to Iowa since announcing his candidacy for President last week.

Biden made a quick visit to The Cone Shoppe to buy an ice cream cone. The Monticello Express tells KMCH that there were around a dozen people there when he arrived.

The former Vice President visited with the crowd, talking to some local former educators and a couple of clergy. Monticello Express Editor Kim Brooks says when the national press – who followed him to the event – started pushing for answers to their questions about campaign issues, he dismissed them, saying he was there to meet the people.

Along with his last minute stop in Monticello, Biden held scheduled events in Cedar Rapids and Dubuque on Tuesday and Iowa City and Des Moines on Wednesday.
