Two Local Golfers Crowned State Champs

Two local golfers have been crowned state champs – Brandon Larsen of West Delaware is the 3A Champ and Ed-Co’s Ethan Streicher is the 1A Champ.

The 2019 State Boys Golf Meet’s Day 2 competition on Friday was canceled because of course conditions. It’s the first time since 1991 that State Golf has been shortened by weather at multiple sites. It means all scores are final through Thursday’s play.

In Class 3A, West Delaware junior Brandon Larsen earned himself a state title after shooting a 69, 3-under par and 2 strokes ahead of Briggs of West Burlington/Notre Dame. Larsen becomes the second golfer ever in WD Boys Golf history to win an individual championship, the first was his older brother Clayton in 2016.

In 1A, Ed-Co Senior Ethan Streicher shot 1-over, 2 strokes ahead of Gunderson from Harris-Lake Park.

Maquoketa Valley sophomore Isaac Zirtzman finished in a tie for 16th place with Tibken of CAM-Anita, with a score of 12-over par.

The State Girls Golf meet will take place Tuesday and Wednesday.
