An Earlville man accused of killing his wife has requested a change of venue for his upcoming trial.
42-year old Todd Mullis is charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife, Amy, who was fatally injured on their farm near Earlville last November. Amy suffered stab wounds on her back from a corn rake. Todd reported his wife fell on the rake, but her autopsy was ruled a homicide.
Mullis’ murder trial is scheduled to begin August 19th in Delaware County District Court.
However, Mullis’ attorneys have argued in a motion that the case’s widespread publicity would prejudice a potential jury and prevent him from receiving a fair trial in Delaware County.
Delaware County Attorney John Bernau tells KMCH the prosecution has resisted Mullis’ motion.
The judge has not yet ruled on Mullis’ request.
