The Delaware County Fair kicks off today in Manchester.
This year’s theme is “Shaking It Up”. After celebrating the fair’s 150th anniversary milestone last year, the fair board is “shaking it up” with a few changes this year. And Fair Manager Jeannie Domeyer says you’ll already notice a couple of big changes when the fair opens today.
The Delaware County Fair Parade kicks off tonight at 7 pm. Manchester Fire Chief Mike Ryan says after dealing with some street construction last year, the parade will be back on its usual route this year.
And Manchester firefighters will be walking the parade route again this year collecting donations for the MDA.
One of the biggest changes to this year’s Delaware County Fair is no fireworks. Domeyer says the decision was made with safety in mind.
As the carnival and vendors get set up today on the fairgrounds, 4-H and FFA members will be bringing their projects to the fair for judging in the pavilion – projects like photography, baking, artwork, posters, crafts and furniture – even tractors! And there is no gate admission today, so take advantage and come watch the 4-H/FFA Dog Show at 12:30 pm in the show ring, the 4-H/FFA Horse Show at 3 pm at the horse arena or the 4-H/FFA Pen of Three Show at 5 pm in the show ring.
We’ll be checking in with some of those purple ribbon winners during “Meet the Champions” Tuesday through Saturday afternoon here on KMCH. News Director Janelle Tucker will have fair coverage for you all week in the KMCH Local News. And Mike, Janelle and Rob will also be broadcasting live from the Delaware County Fair on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon right here on Mix 94.7 KMCH.
