Day one of the 2019 State Softball Tournament in Fort Dodge saw our two Class 2A coverage area teams play their first ever state contest. The top-seeded North Linn Lynx handled the 8th-seeded Arrows of Wapello 6-0 behind excellent pitching by Abby Flanagan and consistent offense. The Lynx advance on to semifinal play Wednesday afternoon at 3pm against the 4th-seed Mount Ayr, who Beckman fell to in a 8 inning heartbreaker 3-2. The Blazers dropped to 29-14 and will play their final contest of the season in the 5th-place game this afternoon at 1pm against Wapello. We’ll have it for you live on KMCH.com with Kevin Schuchmann.

The rest of 3A then Class 4A and 5A teams hit the fields to finish first round play today including our featured match-up in Class 4A. As the 5th-seed 30-10 West Delaware Hawks face the 30-11 4th-seeded Mustangs of Independence. A 1:30pm first pitch is slated and all the coverage can be heard here on KMCH and KMCH.com with Sports Director Jon Swisher and West Delaware AD Matt Weis.
The West Delaware Baseball team battled all they could in a District final that took 16 innings in DeWitt last night and lasted four hours and twelve minutes, the longest game now ever heard from KMCH Sports. The Hawks end at 15-24 as they fell to the 3rd-ranked Sabers of Central DeWitt 4-3. They say goodbye to two seniors, Nick Casey and Ben Ridenour.

In 4A, Davenport Central got past Dubuque Hempstead 7-6. Central is now the Western Dubuque Bobcats substate opponent in Farley on Wednesday night.
Tonight Class 1A and 2A substates take place around the state. Our featured game will come from Van Horne as the North Linn Lynx compete in their 5th substate in a row trying to get back to state for the 4th time. The Lynx will face Pella Christian at 7pm.
