Day two of the 2019 State Softball Tournament saw the West Delaware Hawks get a convincing quarterfinal win over Independence 8-2. The Hawks used a huge 4th inning when they scored 6 runs on 5 hits then shutdown pitching by Macey Kleitsch after getting behind 2-0 in the first inning. Independence falls to 30-12 and will play their final game this morning against Denison Schleswig at 11:30. Live coverage of that one on KMCH.com with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Kevin Schuchmann. The Hawks go to the semifinal against the top seed in 4A, Carlisle. That game will be at 3:30 this afternoon live on KMCH and KMCH.com with Jon and WD AD Matt Weis. At 3pm this afternoon we’ll bring you coverage on KMCH.com of North Linn’s Class 2A semifinal against Mount Ayr.

Also yesterday in the 2A field, Beckman closed out their history making campaign with a record 30-13 after a 5-3 win over Wapello.

In high school baseball last night-

The North Linn Lynx advanced to the state baseball tournament for the fourth time in five seasons after a 8-0 win over Pella Christian in Van Horne. The Lynx making it in Class 2A for the first time will find out their pairings later today with first round play beginning on Monday at Principal Park in Des Moines.

The Alburnett Pirates qualify for state for the first time since 2006 with a 4-2 victory over HLV of Victor.

The final baseball substate games will take place tonight with 3A and 4A play.

Our featured game will come from Farley Park with Bill Logan as the Western Dubuque Bobcats face Davenport Central at 7pm. The Bobcats try to get back to state for the second season in a row and fifth time in program history. All the coverage live on KMCH and KMCH.com around 6:50.
