HS SOFTBALL/BASEBALL: Results from Wednesday 7-24

By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

After being down 4-1 to top-seeded Carlisle heading into the sixth inning the West Delaware Hawks Softball team was one out away from moving on to the Class 4A championship but a two-out 2-run home run by the Wildcats Kennedy Preston changed everything. Carlisle pulled off the final comeback and took the 7-6 eighth inning victory in a semifinal game that took one hour and fifty-six minutes. As heartbreaking as the loss was, 5th-year head coach Tiffany Rave shared her thoughts with Sports Director Jon Swisher afterwards:

The Hawks fell to 31-11 and were denied the program’s fourth title game appearance and first since 2007. Carlisle moves on to meet North Scott. West Delaware will face Charles City in the 3rd place game at 4:45 Friday afternoon.

Day three of the tourney started with Independence beating Denson-Schleswig 3-0. Six Mustang seniors played their final game including Mackenzie Hupke who threw a no hitter, the 56th in state tournament history. She missed having the 14th perfect game in tourney history by just one batter as she hit a girl with two out in the top of the 7th.

The Class 2A North Linn Lynx beat Mount Ayr 8-1 to advance to the championship game tonight at 8:15. The Lynx will take on the 6-seed Alta-Aurelia. All the coverage can be heard here from KMCH Sports on KMCH and KMCH.com with Sports Director Jon Swisher and Brian Wheatley.
