Ryan Veteran Posthumously Honored with Military Medals

A Ryan veteran has been posthumously honored with several military medals.

Private William Miller had earned but never received the medals – including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart – for his courageous service and his injuries during World War Two conflict in Italy in 1944. He lost his eyesight and right leg and suffered numerous other wounds to his face, hands and other parts of his body.

An aide from U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley’s office came to Ryan on Friday afternoon to present Private Miller’s missing military medals to his four adult children – Dave Miller, Darla Stepanek, Duane Miller and Dennis Miller – during a ceremony at the Ryan Veterans Memorial.

After the ceremony, the Ryan American Legion invited the crowd to gather at the Legion for coffee and cookies.
