The Clayton County Fair had a special moment during its livestock sale last weekend.
12-year old Brandi Herman won Champion Rate of Gain with her steer – and when it came time to sell her animal, she walked into the ring and handed the auctioneer a slip of paper, saying she wanted to donate 10% of her proceeds to a local family in need.
The steer sold for about $2.10 a pound, with the steer weighing in at 1540 pounds (with a rate of gain of 4.13 pounds per day). The 10% from the sale came out to a little over $300, with another $1300 raised from the crowd’s donations.
