LeRoy J. Schlee – Decorah, formerly of Colesburg

LeRoy Joseph Schlee, age 92, of Decorah, IA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 22, 2019, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa surrounded by family.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, August 26, 2019 at the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Deacon Mike Ward presiding. Burial will be in the Phelps cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and also after 9:30 a.m. at the Church on Monday morning.

LeRoy was born July 10, 1927 to Herman and Amelia (Eberhardt) Schlee near Edgewood, IA. He graduated from Elkport High School in 1947, and was united in marriage to Violet Brady on June 20, 1947 at the Garber Lutheran Church. LeRoy started working at Brown Ford in Guttenberg, IA in 1955 after which he started his own business (Schlee’s Garage) in Colesburg, Iowa. He repaired all makes and models of cars, trucks and tractors. While in Colesburg, LeRoy was an active community member, serving on the city council, serving as Fire Chief, and was instrumental in starting the golf course. In 1988 LeRoy retired from his garage and moved to Decorah, IA, where he worked for a few years at various jobs. LeRoy loved spending time with family and friends and in the great outdoors. He also loved his music, blue jeans and dancing. He made friends wherever he went! This man…he loved, worked hard, took good care of his family, and made sure we laughed a lot!

LeRoy is survived by his wife (Violet Amber Schlee) of 72 years; nine children: Sherry Jaeger, Susan Schlee, Lee Schlee, Wendy (Craig) Kruger, Joey Schlee, Ellen Schlee, Robin Schlee, Scott Schlee and Daniel (Linda) Schlee, as well as 79 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Evelyn Neel and Arthur (Barb) Schlee; brother-in-law; Steve (Donna) Brady, and sister-in-law; Alberta (Dick) Farquhar, and several nieces and nephews.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Amelia (Eberhardt) Schlee ; great grandson: Samuel Ward; and daughter-in-law: Chris Schlee. Siblings: Walter (Augusta) Schlee, Carrie (Lloyd) Amling, Fred Schlee, Henry (Yvonne) Schlee, Edna (Martin) White, and Herman Schlee.
