Manchester Hosting State Firefighters Convention

Manchester is hosting the State Firefighters Convention this year.

Hundreds of visitors will be making their way into town over the next few days, with the convention officially getting underway on Wednesday.

Manchester Fire Chief Mike Ryan says fire departments from around 135 communities across Iowa will be represented at the State Firefighters Convention. The visitors will be have campsites set up at the Delaware County Fairgrounds, which means the fairgrounds will be closed to the general public now through next Sunday.

Many of the activities during the State Firefighters Convention will take place privately at the fairgrounds, but there will be several events open to the public – including a concert on Sunday night.

The State Firefighters Convention parade is next Saturday night, September 7th in Manchester. And there will be several street closures too – we’ll tell you more about that and talk with some of the visitors in next week’s KMCH Local News.
