Child Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run in Linn County

A child was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident south of Central City on Saturday.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a report of a child struck by a vehicle on Highway 13 just south of Scotland Road around 4:30 pm. When they arrived on the scene, an injured child was lying on the shoulder of the road and the vehicle that struck the child had left the scene.

The child has been identified as 3-year old Hunter Lee Perez. Perez was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City with serious injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that stuck the child and left the scene has not yet been identified.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that anyone with information on the identity of the driver contact their office at 319-892-6100.

The accident remains under investigation.

Central City Fire, Center Point Ambulance and Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue assisted at the scene.
