City and School Elections on Same Day This Year

City and school elections will be held on the same day this year.

The date is set for Tuesday, November 5th. A law passed by the Iowa Legislature in 2017 ended the longstanding tradition of holding school board elections in September.

Secretary of State Paul Pate is hoping the combined elections will increase voter participation.

Candidates can now file to run for their city councils and school boards. The filing period opened last week and runs through September 19th.
