The Huey helicopter rides were a big hit last weekend in Manchester.
The helicopter, from the Vietnam War era, was flown up to Iowa from Alabama in honor of Manchester hosting the State Firefighters Convention last week. It landed at the Delaware County Fairgrounds last Thursday night for a presentation with the firefighters before spending the day Friday offering rides to the public.
The City of Manchester says 39 flights were taken on Friday and 47 flights on Saturday. That was a two-day record for the Huey helicopter crew, with Saturday actually a one-day record too.
Each ride cost $50 per person, with ten people on each flight. All proceeds were donated to the Friends of Army Aviation.
Manchester city officials say the State Fire Convention went very well, with Police Chief Jim Hauschild saying this was probably the best state fire convention the town has hosted.
