The Ryan Nationals Car Club did some giving back on Wednesday evening.
The club, made up of around 15 members, is a big believer in donating to local causes. Club member Mike McElliott:
For the third year in a row, the Ryan Nationals Car Club made a donation to the Ryan ballpark project. The club donated $2,500 to the ongoing project, which Ryan Mayor and fellow car club member Mike Corcoran says they hope to have ready by next summer.
But the local ballpark wasn’t the only cause the Ryan Nationals Car Club wanted to help this year. They also made a $3,000 first-time donation to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight in memory of Ryan veteran and Legion member Pat Duggan.
Tracy Kaeding, who serves as board secretary for the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight, says a donation like this from a small group means a lot to their organization.
The Eastern Iowa Honor Flight is preparing to take veterans on two flights to Washington D.C. this fall – one of which will be taking place next week. Kaeding says the Honor Flight is much more than just a one-day trip to see monuments in the nation’s capital.
Last night’s donations were presented at the Ryan Veterans Memorial.
