A Delaware County 4-Her is asking fire departments to help her with her next fair project.
12-year old Kendra Lux is a member of the Buffalo Belles and Boys 4-H Club in Ryan. She is collecting t-shirts and patches from fire departments from all over the world for a quilt she is making in honor of her dad, who serves on the Ryan Fire Department.
Word has been spreading quickly through Facebook, with thousands of people seeing Kendra’s post about her request for patches and t-shirts. Over 60 patches and over 25 t-shirts have already come in from area fire departments such as Coggon, Delaware and Marion – and they’ve gotten responses from as far away as Salt Lake City and Australia.
Kendra says she looks forward to checking the mail every day.
She says she’s never made a quilt before, but with her mom’s help, she plans to learn how. The main goal is to create a 4-H project to be judged at next summer’s Delaware County Fair – but if she gets extra t-shirts and patches, she might make a second quilt.
Kendra says she’d like to follow in her dad’s footsteps someday and become a firefighter too.
Fire departments are encouraged to send a t-shirt or patch to Kendra at PO Box 76 Ryan, Iowa 52330.
