The Delaware County Democrats have lost their leader.
Robin Stone was the Chair of the Delaware County Democrats. Ever since she moved to Manchester thirteen years ago, she had been a voice in the community.
That’s Delaware County Democrats Vice Chair Buzz Pounds. He and fellow Democrats were saddened to learn just over a month ago that Robin had been diagnosed with a rare and deadly form of thyroid cancer. Robin had always said, “Health insurance is great until you need it”. And now she was living the fight firsthand.
From her hospital room and no longer able to speak, Robin shared her story in a video – and said she would like to meet with U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley to talk about healthcare and insurance. Senator Grassley did not respond to her request, but last week just days before her death, Robin vowed that others would pick up the fight where she left off. She lost her short battle to cancer on Saturday night.
Over the past few days, Democratic leaders from across the state and country, including Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer, have shared their sympathy and stories of inspiration about Robin. And it’s not just the political community mourning her loss – Robin made a big impact locally here in Manchester, wanting to make a difference by starting the “Share the Harvest” program a few years ago.
Friends and family said their goodbyes during services this morning.
