Independence Walmart Robbers Sentenced to Prison

Three people have been sentenced to prison for robbing the Independence Walmart.

Jasmine Donald, Kaila Johnson and Naviea Steele, all 19 and from Waterloo, have been sentenced to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to Second Degree Burglary in Buchanan County District Court.

Police say the three women went to the Independence Walmart on January 21st with the intent to shoplift. When Donald tried exiting the front doors with a cart full of unpurchased items, she was stopped by a Walmart employee. Johnson then sprayed the Walmart employee with pepper spray so they could escape.

28-year old Jalissa Simmons, also of Waterloo, pled guilty to Accessory After the Fact for helping the others flee from the scene in a vehicle. She was given a suspended two year prison sentence.

Authorities say a warrant remains outstanding for 16-year old Daniya Hardy of Waterloo in connection to this case.
