Edgewood’s fire chief has been presented with the Iowa Fire Chiefs Association’s highest honor.
Jay Degenford received the Roger Mooty Award, given in recognition of an individual who has made exceptional contributions to the advancement of the fire service and who exemplifies the same ideals as the award’s namesake.
Degenford became a member of the Edgewood Fire Department in 1989 and has served as Chief since 2008. He was instrumental in the building of Edgewood’s Emergency Response Center, works to implement and build on community fire prevention awareness and teaches others through his love of and dedicated to the fire service.
Degenford was presented with the honor at the Iowa Fire Chiefs Association annual conference in Sigourney on Saturday. He tells KMCH the entire Edgewood Fire Department deserves credit, adding that there are very few things you can do in the fire service by yourself.
