The Delaware County Pork Producers held their annual “Taste of Pork” event on Tuesday night at the Earlville Community Center, enjoying some good food and handing out a couple of awards.
The Pork Producers’ “Hog Wild” Award for 2019 went to a Manchester man. Jordan LeClere grew up on a farm raising sheep and horses, but started getting involved in a pork industry as a teenager helping his neighbors.
LeClere currently serves on the Delaware County Pork Board and says helping to promote the local pork industry is important to him.
The Delaware County Pork Producers presented their “Associate of the Year” Award to KMCH News and Farm Director Janelle Tucker, who served on the board during her early years at KMCH from 2006 to 2008 and has been attending and reporting on Pork Board events for the last 15 years.
And in addition to their annual meeting, the “Taste of Pork” contest was also held. The public was invited to make their favorite pork recipe and bring samples for everyone to try, with everyone voting for their favorites. Mary Krogmann won $100 for her first place entry with her Chocolate-Covered Peanut Butter Bacon Candies, with Beth Schulte winning second for her Mississippi Pork Loin and Kelley Glanz winning third place for her bacon-wrapped potatoes.
Be sure to mark your calendars for February 8th for the Delaware County Pork Producers’ “Bake It With Lard” Pie Contest and Auction.
