Backbone State Park Friends Group Honored with Governor’s Volunteer Award

A local group who volunteers their time at Backbone State Park received a special honor this fall.

The Backbone State Park Friends Group was honored with the Governor’s Volunteer Award.

Backbone’s park ranger, Dave Sunne, nominated the group. This year, over five hundred groups and individuals from across the state were honored with the award. Roger Helmrichs, who volunteers his time with the Backbone State Park Friends Group, says it was nice to be recognized for their efforts.

The Backbone State Park Friends Group has been around for the last two decades, helping provide items and events for Backbone.

And the Backbone State Park Friends Group is preparing for a big year ahead with the park’s 100th anniversary celebration coming up in May. Mark your calendars for their 4th Annual Trail Run, scheduled for the last weekend in May to coincide with the celebration event.
