Edgewood Convalescent Home Found Negligent in Resident’s Death

The Edgewood Convalescent Home has been found negligent in a resident’s death.

The children of 90-year old Verna Kelley filed a lawsuit against the Edgewood nursing home. Kelley suffered a fall in January 2016 while living at the nursing home and died from her injuries two weeks later.

Her family alleged that the Edgewood Convalescent Home failed to keep their mother from falling and that her injuries led to her death.

And a jury has sided with the family. A nine-day trial started in Delaware County District Court on November 6th and wrapped up earlier this week. The eight-person jury found the Edgewood Convalescent Home negligent of caring for Kelley and that their negligence caused damage to Kelley, though the jury did not find the negligence to be intentional.

The plaintiffs have been awarded 700-thousand dollars in the case.
