West Delaware’s top ranked wrestling team opened their WaMaC dual schedule last night as they took down 6th ranked Solon 53-14 in the Spartan Gymnasium. The Hawks jumped out to a 22-0 lead with falls from Blake Engel, Stavely Maury, and Logan Peyton, and a 14-3 major decision from Evan Woods. Solon had back to back wins at 145 and 152 pounds as top ranked at 138 pounds Hayden Taylor defeated 3rd ranked Jadyn Peyton 9-3 and 4th ranked Zeb Gnida had a 16-0 technical fall over Isaac Fettkether. West Delaware then got an 11-1 major decision from Cael Meyer at 160 before 2nd ranked Jax Flynn knocked off 7th ranked Jared Voss 9-5 at 170 pounds. The Hawks went on to win five out of the last six matches with wins from Jack Neuhaus who won 7-1, Wyatt Voelker and Carson Petlon who pinned their opponents, while Carson Less and Luke Farmer both received forfeits. Solon’s final win came from Gage Marty at 220 pounds as he defeated Christian Nunley 6-3.
The Hawks move to 2-0 in dual meets and for the second straight dual against a ranked opponent they picked up five falls on the night and added two major decisions. West Delaware will return to the mat tomorrow as they will travel to Calmar to compete in the South Winneshiek Invitational, and you can hear live hold-by-hold action of that tournament starting at 10:00 with Roger Reed and Jamie Vaske at our website KMCH.com and they will move over to KMCH starting with the semifinal round.
