Another week of high school wrestling is in the books and here is a recap of how our area teams did this last Saturday.
In Calmar: West Delaware won their second tournament in as many weeks as they took home the team title at the South Winneshiek tournament. The Hawks had six champions and totaled 271 team points which was 92 points better than Osage. Winning titles for the Hawks was junior Stavely Maury at 132 pounds, Jared Voss at 170, Jack Neuhaus at 182 pounds, Wyatt Voelker at 195, Christian Nunley at 220 pounds and Carson Petlon at heavyweight. In Clarence: North Linn finished 3rd at the North Cedar Invitational finishing behind New London and Belle Plaine who finished 1st and 2nd respectively. The Lynx had three champions as Cael Bridgewater at 113, Blaine Baumgartner, at 132 pounds, and Dawson Sanderson at 152 all won title. For complete results click HERE.
In Oelwein: Monticello finished 2nd at the Oelwein Invitational as they were just 17.5 points behind Tipton for the team title. The Panthers got individual titles from Kale Hanson at 106 pounds, Owen Ray at 120, and Kain Luensman at 138 pounds. Starmont finished in 5th place and were led by Lane German who finished 2nd at 106 pounds. Ed-Co finished in tied for 9th place and were led by Alex Jones at 126, and Max Bahls at 170 pounds who both finished in 2nd place. For complete results click HERE.
In Mount Vernon: Beckman finished in 3rd place at the Mount Vernon Invitational finishing behind Lisbon and Davenport Assumption, and were led by Evan Wulfekuhle who won the title at 182 pounds. East Buchanan 12th and were led by Luke Recker at 220 and heavyweight Landon Nunemaker who both finished 3rd for the Bucs. Cascade finished in 15th place. For complete results click HERE.
In Epworth: Western Dubuque finished 4th at their own Bobcat duals as they went 2-3 on the day. In pool action they went 2-1 as their wins came against Central DeWitt 58-18 and Cedar Rapids Jefferson 53-27 with their lone loss coming to Southeast Polk 66-15. In championship pool meets they lost to Williamsburg 50-18 and Dakota, Illinois 69-5. For complete results click HERE.
In Parkersburg: Maquoketa Valley finished in 9th place at the Keith Vry Invitational at Aplington Parkersburg high school. Evan Elgin led the Wildcats as he finished 2nd at 182 pounds. For complete results click HERE.
In Maquoketa: Anamosa finished in 5th place at the Zimmerman Invitational at Maquoketa high school. Nathan Keating had two falls on his way to the title at 170 pounds to lead the Blue Raiders. For complete results click HERE.
In Tama: Independence went 4-1 and finished in 2nd place in the South Tama Duals. The Mustangs went 2-1 in pool meets as they beat South Tama 62-15 and Wahlert 60-17 with their lone loss coming to Omaha Burke 46-33. In In the championship pool the Mustangs went 2-0 with wins over Solon 48-27 and Des Moines East 68-9. For complete results click HERE.
The 2019 Battle of Waterloo brackets were released on Sunday. Independence is the #3 seed in the Patten bracket which will wrestle at 9:00, 11:00, and 1:00 pm on Friday and the Mustangs will open up with Denver. West Delaware and Western Dubuque will both wrestle at 4:00, 6:00, and 8:00 on Friday night as the Hawks are the #1 seed in the Mashek-Fox bracket and will take on Bishop Heelan in the opening round. Western Dubuque is the 5th seed in the Smith-Springer bracket and will wrestle Crestwood in the first round.
