HS Wrestling: 12.20 and 12.21 Recap

It was the final weekend of competition in 2019 for area wrestling teams and here is a look at how the teams finished.

In Waterloo: In the two day 32 team dual team tournament, West Delaware finished in 3rd place at the 2019 Battle of Waterloo. The Hawks went 3-0 in dual meets on Friday to win their bracket to qualify for the championship pool on Saturday as they defeated Bishop Heelan 63-13, Assumption 48-25, and West Des Moines, Valley 48-19. In Saturday’s championship pool the Hawks went 1-2 as they defeated Waverly-Shell Rock 37-30, with their losses coming to Lisbon 40-30 and Don Bosco 36-24. Independence finished in 4th place in their bracket on Friday going 1-2 as they defeated Denver 52-27 in the opening round before falling to Cedar Rapids Prairie 42-37 and Cedar Falls 39-33. In the 4th place pool Saturday the Mustangs went 3-0 defeating Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 58-18, Assumption 39-34, and Crestwood 42-25. Western Dubuque lost their opening dual on Friday to Crestwood 38-37 and went on to win their remaining five duals on the weekend. On Friday they beat Wapsie Valey 57-18 and New Hampton/Turkey Valley 44-27, and went a perfect 3-0 on Saturday with wins over Lake Mills 35-32, Union 54-26, and Charles City 54-26. In Arlington: Monticello won the Doug Guilford Tournament hosted by Starmont high school as the Panthers tallied 202 1/2 points which was 31 1/2 points better than 2nd place Oelwein. The Panthers had four individual champions as they were Kale Hansen at 106 pounds, Mark Sunlin at 113, Kain Luensman at 138, while Alaina Sunlin won the girls 1 division. Starmont finished in 4th place as they had two individual champs with Henry Hayes winning the 132 pound bracket and Eli Elledge taking the title at 182 pounds. East Buchanan finished in 6th place as they were led by Luke Recker who won the 220 pound title and Landon Nunemaker who claimed the title at heavyweight. For complete results click HERE.

In Troy Mills: Beckman took home the top spot at the North Linn Lynx Invitational on Saturday as they were 24 1/2 points better than 2nd place Wapello, and were led by Nick Schmidt who won the 106 pound bracket. North Linn was 3rd and had one champion as Cael Bridgewater won the title at 120 pounds. Maquoketa Valley finished in 11th place as 182 pounder Evan Elgin led the way for the Wildcats with a runner-up finish. For complete results click HERE.

In Cedar Rapids: Anamosa went 2-3 at the Doug Phillipp Duals at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids. The Blue Raiders wins came over Cedar Rapids Xavier and Alburnett with their losses coming to West Liberty, Williamsburg, and Marion. For complete results click HERE.

In Guttenburg: Cascade went 4-0 and won the Clayton Ridge Duals on Friday night as they defeated Bellevue 51-30, Clayton Ridge 43-18, Postville 48-30, and Ed-Co 46-30.
