Briggs’ Trial Delayed Until April

The trial of a former Manchester hospital official has now been delayed until April.

Mike Briggs, the former System Fund Development Director for Regional Medical Center, is now set to stand trial on April 22nd in Delaware County District Court. Jury trial was scheduled to begin March 18th.

It has been pushed back due to a scheduling conflict for County Attorney John Bernau.

Briggs and former CEO Lon Butikofer were charged with First Degree Theft last summer. The State Auditor’s Office discovered they had accumulated over $256,000 in expenses for personal trips they claimed were for hospital business. The investigation spanned eight years from January 2009 to March 2017.

Briggs has pleaded not guilty. He remains free on bond.

Meanwhile, Butikofer was given a suspended prison sentence last month, with his restitution hearing scheduled for January 21st.
