The longtime manager of the Manchester Fareway is saying goodbye.
Paul Heffernen retired three weeks ago after 40 years with the company. Heffernen tells KMCH he started working at the old Fareway store in Manchester back in 1979.
Heffernen has been known through the years for giving back to the community in many ways – whether it’s through donations or just providing organizations a place to hold a fundraiser, like our annual Food Bank fundraiser through KMCH.
He says he’ll miss the customers and day-to-day contact, but working with the kids is the one thing he’ll probably miss the most.
Heffernen says he couldn’t have ran a successful store without his team of employees or his family, including his wife Liz. And he has appreciated being part of the Manchester community.
Fareway held a retirement reception for Heffernen from 9 am to 1 pm on Friday, with a long line of well-wishers stopping by to say hello.
