For the second straight Thursday West Delaware has taken down a 2nd ranked opponent on the wrestling mat as they handled 2nd ranked Independence 57-12 in the Mustang’s home gym. The Hawks dominated the dual from start to finish as they jumped out to a 23-0 lead after wins from Stavely Maury, Logan Peyton, Jadyn Peyton, and Kyle Cole before the Mustangs got their first win as 7th ranked Matthew Doyle picked up a late takedown and two nearfall to down 4th ranked Cael Meyer 9-7. The Hawks would return the favor in the next match as 5th ranked Jared Voss who trailed 2-0 going into the 3rd period picked up a takedown and two nearfall to upset top ranked Cole Davis 4-2 to give the Hawks a 26-3 lead. West Delaware would go on to win six of the final eight matches and recorded bonus points in all six with three falls, two major decisions, and a technical fall. Independence’s final two wins came in the final two matches of the dual as Carter Straw defeated 10th ranked Blake Engel 4-2 at 120 pounds, and 3rd ranked Isaiah Weber pinned Evan Woods at 126 pounds.
