Area wrestling teams competed in their conference tournaments on Saturday and here is a look at how they did.
In Manchester: West Delaware scored the second highest team points in tournament history as they scored 301 points on their way to winning the WaMaC tournament at West Delaware high school. The Hawks had wrestlers in the finals and finished with three champions as Blake Engel at 120 pounds, Jared Voss at 170, and Wyatt Voelker at 195 pounds all won titles. Independence finished in 3rd place with 173 1/2 points just two points behind 2nd place Williamsburg. The Mustangs had three individual champions with Isaiah Weber winning the 126 pound title, Matthew Doyle claiming the 160 pound crown, and Christian Kremer brought home gold at 220 pounds. Beckman finished in 5th place as they were led by Evan Wulfekuhle who won the 182 pound title. For complete results click HERE.
In Arlington: Starmont was the host of this years Tri-Rivers conference tournament which saw Lisbon win a team title. North Linn finished in 3rd place as they were led by Cael Bridgewater at 113 pounds and Curtis Schott at 145 who both won titles for the Lynx. Ed-Co finished 15 1/2 points behind North Linn for 4th place as they were led by Bo Struble at 160 and Max Bahls at 170 pounds who both finished as runner-ups. Starmont finished in 5th place and had two wrestlers finish in 2nd place as Bowen Munger was a runner up at 145 pounds while Louis Hamlett finished 2nd at 220 pounds. East Buchanan was 6th in the Tri-Rivers as they were led by TJ Lau who won the 152 pound bracket and Luke Recker who took home the title at 220 pounds. For complete results click HERE.
In Tipton: West Liberty won the River Valley conference tournament hosted by Tipton on Saturday and Anamosa was the leading area team in the tournament as they finished in 5th place. The Blue Raiders had two individual champions as Alex Casey won the 152 pound title and Connor Anderson claimed the heavyweight title. Monticello finished in 7th place as the Panthers were led by Kale Hansen who won the 106 pound bracket, while Cascade finished right behind Monticello in 7th place with Aidan Noonan winning their lone individual title as he won gold at 126 pounds. In Dubuque: Iowa City West won the Mississippi Valley conference tournament hosted by Dubuque Hempstead as the Trojans totaled 209 1/2 points. West Dubuque finished in 8th place and had two wrestlers placed 4th in the tournament with Jared Cordes finishing 4th at 138 pounds, and Sawyer Nauman finished 4th at 195 pounds.
