Four area wrestling teams will look to qualify for the 2020 State Duals as they compete in tonight’s regional duals. West Delaware, Anamosa, Independence, and Beckman will need to win two duals tonight to qualify for next Wednesday’s State Duals at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Two of the area teams will meet in the first round of the regional duals in Manchester as the class 2A defending state champion West Delaware will face Anamosa in one semifinal as the winner will take on the winner of the other semifinal between Solon and Camanche. This will be the first dual between the two teams since the Blue Raiders left the WaMaC Conference at the start of last season as the Hawks will look to make their third straight trip to the state duals while Anamosa is seeking their first ever trip.
Independence will also host a class 2A regional dual as they will host Mount Vernon, Charles City, and Gilbert. The Mustangs will open up with WaMaC conference foe Mount Vernon in one semifinal as Independence will look to get back to the state duals for the second straight year while Mount Vernon is looking to qualify for the first time since 2005.
In class 1A Beckman will look to qualify for the state duals for the first time since 1999 as they will travel to Denver to take on the host Cyclones who are looking to make it to the state duals for the third straight time since splitting from Tripoli where they had five appearances including a title in 2010. The other semifinal in Denver will feature New London and Colfax-Mingo.
Tune into KMCH tonight for our live regional dual coverage as Roger Reed and Jamie Vaske will be in Manchester starting around 6:00, as Jamie will also have updates from the other regional duals.
