Delaware Co. Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Brooks Passes Away

The Chief Deputy of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has died.

Eric Brooks passed away at his Manchester home on Tuesday morning. He was 47.

Brooks, who grew up in Maquoketa, had worked with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office for nearly nineteen years. He joined the Sheriff’s Office in July 2001 and became the Chief Deputy in August 2004. Prior to coming to Manchester, he worked for the Monticello Police Department from 1997 to 2001.

Delaware County Sheriff John LeClere released a statement on Wednesday. He says, “Our office is mourning the loss of Chief Deputy Eric Brooks, who passed away unexpectedly… Our thoughts and prayers go out to Eric’s family and friends”.

Sheriff LeClere says his office is not releasing details on the cause of his death per his family’s wishes.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Burial with law enforcement honors will be held at a later date.
