By Jon Swisher-Sports Director:

Two of our three coverage area schools earned trips to the Girls State Tournament with victories last night. The Class 2A 3rd-ranked North Linn Lynx handled Van Meter in Marshalltown 72-34 to make it to state for the 5th time in the past 7 years and 6th appearance in North Linn Girls program history. Abby Flanagan led the way with 20 points with her 6th point being her 1,000 career point becoming the 4th Lynx player in the 5-player era to reach that plateau. North Linn is the 3rd seed in the 2A bracket and will face the 6th seed Western Christian at 11:45am on Wednesday morning.

In 1A, East Buchanan’s bid for their first tourney trip was denied in their 2nd Regional Final as they fell to Algona Bishop Garrigan 63-46. The Buccaneers close at 17-8.

2A No. 1 Cascade heads back to state with a 47-36 victory over Iowa City Regina. The Cougars are the number one seed and will get the 8th-seed Denver in quarterfinal play at 6:45 Tuesday evening.
