Delaware County Public Health is advising residents about what they can do now to prepare for the potential spread of the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19.
Public Health Coordinator Delma Hardin says since the start of the worldwide outbreak, they’ve been working closely with the Iowa Department of Public Health to monitor potential cases.
No one in Iowa has yet tested positive for coronavirus.
Hardin says you should prepare for the potential of coronavirus in the same way you prepare for severe weather or other events that could disrupt your normal routine. She says you should consider such questions as: what would you do if you could not go to work or school because of the illness? How would you get your groceries if you were ill? What if your daycare provider was ill?
There are things that everyone can do to help prevent the spread of all viruses, including covering your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your upper arm or elbow; cleaning your hands frequently with soap and water; and staying home when you’re sick.
