Day 4 of the High School Girls State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines featured Class 5A, 4A and 3A semifinals.
In 5A, Johnston upset Iowa City High 71-61. The number one seed Waukee thumped Waterloo West 88-65. Those two winners meet for the crown at 6pm this evening.
In 3A, North Polk snuck by the top-seed Dike-New Hartford 48-46. Sioux City Bishop Heelan beat Clear Lake 61-57. Those two winners get together at 8pm tonight.
In 4A, CP-U was taken down by the number 1 seed North Scott 40-32 while the 6-seed Lewis Central knocked off the 2-seed Glenwood 62-51. That championship contest will be Saturday at 3pm before the 2A and 1A finals.
Those semifinals come up today. We’ll have both of the 2A games live on KMCH and KMCH.com starting with Cascade around 9:50 as the top-rated Cougars face Osage. Then it’s North Linn against West Hancock of Britt with a 11:45 start time slated. Sports Director Jon Swisher and Nate Sanderson will have all the commentary and analysis.
In the 1A games, at 1:30pm #1 Newell Fonda takes on Saint Ansgar and at 3:15 Bellevue Marquette will face Algona Bishop Garrigan.
