The Class 2A 2nd-ranked North Linn Lynx avoided a first round upset at the High School Boys Basketball State Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines by outscoring West Sioux of Hawarden 18-12 in the fourth quarter to win 56-51. The Lynx improved their mark to 25-0 as they won their 51st consecutive contest dating back to March of 2018. It was a slow start for North Linn who trailed 10-6 after one quarter. They didn’t get to the free throw line at all in first half but still led by one at halftime. The Lynx made 12 of 15 from the charity stripe in the second half as Austin Miller and Austin Miller scored all of their points. Miller with a game high 22 and 19 for Hilmer. Cade Haughenbury had 8 and 5 for Kaleb Kurt. It was the 14th state game for North Linn since 1976, they improved their record to 10-4 and won their first round game for the fifth time in a row and advance on to semifinal play Wednesday night at 8:15pm against the number 2-seed Treynor who defeated Pella Christian last night 69-53. In the other 2A semifinal top-seed Boyden Hull had no problems with Woodward Granger winning 57-26. Class 1A semi’s started off the first day of the 108th state tourney:

Wapsie Valley had ahuge upset of the #1 seed Lake Mills, 49 45
Bishop Garrigan of Algona 55 clipped Springville 52 and ended the Orioles fantastic season.
West Fork of Sheffield 55, St. Mary’s, Remsen 53
Today the final 2A semi will start Day 2. Our other coverage area team 21-2 Monticello the 5-seed plays their River Valley Conference co-champion Camanche who is 21-3 and the 4th seed. The two teams split their regular season match-ups and shared the North division of the RVC.
