Three Injured in Pickup Truck/Horse & Buggy Collision in Clayton County

Three people were injured when a pickup truck collided with a horse and buggy in Clayton County on Sunday night.

It happened around 11 pm northeast of Edgewood on Hilton Road north of Harvest Road. The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office says a horse and buggy was traveling southbound on the west shoulder of the road when a pickup truck traveling northbound crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the horse and buggy.

The horse died. Three people in the buggy were seriously injured. Authorities say 21-year old Mary Miller, 21-year old Adam Hershberger and 17-year old Nettie Hershberger, all of Edgewood, were transported to Regional Medical Center.

The pickup driver, 26-year old Alex Hyde of Guttenberg, was not hurt.

Hyde faces several charges, including operating while intoxicated causing serious injury by vehicle, use of an electronic communication device while driving, driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway, open container, failing to use a safety belt and carrying weapons while intoxicated.

The accident remains under investigation.
