Legislators Answer Questions at Manchester Event

Delaware County residents had a chance to visit with their area legislators on Friday.

State Senator Dan Zumbach and State Representative Lee Hein were on hand for a question-and-answer session at the Farm Bureau office in Manchester. It was for the Delaware County Farm Bureau and Delaware County Economic Development’s Legislative Coffee, held twice each year during the legislative session.

The Iowa legislature has been in session for two months. Representative Hein says it’s been going fast and they hope to have their budget targets this week.

Senator Zumbach says it’s been a busy session and he doesn’t expect it to end early.

Friday’s Legislative Coffee covered such topics as property taxes, the bottle bill, the state’s proposed budget, taxing credit unions and funding for public vs. private schools – with a couple of the topics leading to heated discussions among those attending – not something usually seen at this Manchester event.

You hear updates from our legislators every Friday during the noon hour here on KMCH. The Iowa Legislative Session is scheduled to end April 21st.
