A sentencing date has been set for a Manchester man recently convicted in a 40-year old murder case.
A jury found Jerry Burns guilty of First Degree Murder last month. The verdict came following a week and a half long trial in Scott County.
The jury agreed with prosecutors, who said Burns fatally stabbed 18-year old Michelle Martinko in the parking lot of Westdale Mall in Cedar Rapids in 1979. Investigators say Burns’ DNA matched the DNA found at the crime scene. He was taken into custody in December 2018, on the 39th anniversary of her death.
Sentencing for Burns will be held on April 17th.
He is being held without bail.
