West Delaware Among Schools Offering Pick-up for Meals and Student Items

West Delaware is among some school districts offering grab-and-go meals and allowing item pick-up for their students.

Superintendent Dr. Kristen Rickey says breakfast and lunch will be available to any child under the age of 18 – whether they’re a West Delaware student or not – beginning Tuesday. She says the meal program was expanded thanks to the Federal Nutrition Program.

Meals can be picked up at any of the West Delaware school buildings from 7:30 to 12:30 each weekday until school is back in session four weeks from now. Dr. Rickey says they are also working to arrange pick-up sites for their rural communities.

West Delaware is also aware that many students would like to pick up items from their lockers. Students and parents were allowed into the school facilities last night and Dr. Rickey says they’ll be able to do that again Tuesday – but it’s your last chance to do so.

Dr. Rickey and other school officials had a busy day Monday, trying to gather information and determine the next steps as schools across Iowa and the United States navigate uncharted territory with this four-week closure due to COVID-19.
