Driver Not Found after High-Speed Chase in Linn and Jones Counties

A driver led authorities on a high-speed pursuit through Linn and Jones counties late Saturday night.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says deputies attempted to stop a pickup truck shortly before midnight. The driver had been reported attempting to burglarize a residence in rural Springville. As deputies activated their emergency lights, the vehicle sped off attempting to elude them.

The pursuit went through the eastern portions of Linn County before entering Jones County. The pursuit continued into portions of western Jones County before re-entering Linn County. The pursuit ended when the driver drove through a field at the dead end of First Ave SE in Cedar Rapids near the Prairie Park Fishery, and the driver fled on foot. After a search of the area, the driver was not located.

Further investigation revealed the Ford F550 was stolen out of Cedar Rapids. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Cedar Rapids, Mt Vernon, Lisbon, Marion, Anamosa and Monticello Police Departments, as well as the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
