Linn County Fair Remembers Joe Diffie; Worthington Finding New Concert Act

The Linn County Fair lost a friend over the weekend when country music star Joe Diffie passed away from complications of the Coronavirus.

Diffie’s death shocked the music world on Sunday. He had just announced on his Facebook page Friday afternoon that he was receiving medical treatment after testing positive for COVID-19.

Diffie performed at the fair last summer, bringing in a huge crowd – with both young and old fans enjoying his hit songs from the ‘90s. Linn County Fair Association Vice President Jennifer Dunn says she had gotten the opportunity to personally know Diffie over the past year.

Joe Diffie was scheduled to perform in the area again this year at Worthington’s annual Benefit the Vets concert in September. Organizer Kevin Boge says tickets were selling fast when Diffie was announced as the concert act last fall. They were sad to learn of his unexpected passing on Sunday. Boge says they’ll be working on finding another country music headliner to fill Diffie’s spot, with opening act Mike and the Moonpies still set to perform.
