The federal government is sending out the first round of stimulus checks this week – and an IRS tool can help you track when you’ll receive your payment.
People who earn up to 75-thousand dollars in adjusted gross income and have a Social Security number are set to receive a $1,200 payment. Married couples who file joint returns will receive $2,400 if their adjusted gross income is under $150,000.
Some local residents noticed their stimulus checks had been directly deposited into their bank account on Wednesday. But if you haven’t received yours yet, you can check out the Internal Revenue Service’s “Get My Payment” tool – it will allow you to be able to track the date your COVID-19 relief payment is scheduled to be deposited into your bank account or mailed to you. The tool will also guide you through a process where you can submit your personal bank account information.
The process will allow you to receive payments more quickly, since paper checks may not begin until May.
Keep in mind – the IRS is not contacting anyone to collect personal information or bank account information. Any calls, emails, texts and official-looking postcards or printouts that suggest otherwise are a scam. Checks that appear to show an overpayment are also scams.
The IRS’s new “Get My Payment” tool will be available for use starting today at irs.gov.
