A Hopkinton man who was reported missing on Thursday night has been found safe.
Ernest Eiben was found outside of Monticello on Friday night.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says Eiben left home before 5:30 am on Thursday, but did not report to work. His vehicle was found on family-owned property about two miles south of Hopkinton off of 285th Avenue. He was reported missing at 8:41 pm. A search of the area on Thursday night was unsuccessful.
An extensive ground search was conducted on Friday, with numerous agencies and volunteers searching hundreds of acres in a wooded area south of Hopkinton where his vehicle had been found. An image from a trail camera south of the Maquoketa River in southern Delaware County showed Eiben walking south/southeast at about 4:30 pm Thursday.
He was found Friday on County Road D-62 and was returned home.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DNR, Hopkinton Fire and Ambulance and the Monticello Fire Department, along with many of Eiben’s friends and neighbors.
