The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputy who was seriously injured in a crash last weekend received a special escort to Waterloo on Wednesday.
23-year old Deputy Dan Walter was hurt while trying to apprehend a Manchester man during a pursuit on Saturday. Kevin Krapfl’s vehicle collided with Walter’s patrol vehicle, with Walter airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
On Wednesday, Deputy Walter was transferred from Iowa City to MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo to begin rehab and physical therapy. Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies escorted him by Hiawatha Ambulance (where Deputy Walter previously worked), with his family following behind them.
Numerous agencies were lined up on overpasses along Highway 20, sounding their sirens and honking their horns, letting Deputy Walter know they are here supporting him as he recovers from his injuries.
